Yesterday, NBC released the final full-length trailer for its freshman comedy, Powerless, scheduled to premiere on Thursday, February 2nd, at 8:30/7:30c. According to the official description from NBC, the show will center around Emily Locke, portrayed by Vanessa Hudgens, as the Director of Research and Development for Wayne Security.
As seen in the trailer, the show will focus on the aftermath of the epic superhero showdowns we’re all so fond of and the means in which a company is trying to protect the average citizen as they incorporate that chaos into their every day life.
The cast is rounded out with Community veteran Danny Pudi, and the man who stole everyone’s hearts this winter as Rogue One’s K-2SO, Alan Tudyk. Tudyk will be playing the head of Wayne Security and cousin of Bruce Wayne, who also gets a cameo of sorts in the trailer via a text message. This is an interesting, if not a familiar way to keep the heavy hitters of the DC universe connected to the show without over-shadowing it.
A similar technique was used in season one of Supergirl by having Superman appear via chat only. After his appearance in Season 2 of that show, one can only wonder if we will see Bruce Wayne in a cameo appearance on Powerless. Odds are that DC will want to keep the big names off the small screen for the time being, but that does not rule out a possible appearance by other Batman characters such as Lucius Fox or Alfred Pennyworth.
DC has been absolutely fantastic on the TV front in recent years. With hit shows already on the CW and FOX networks, it is quite possible they may have another winner on their hands. What are your thoughts on the trailer? Do you plan on watching the premiere?
