This week’s issue of Flash closed out “The Button” crossover with an epilogue that teased DC’s next big event, “Doomsday Clock”. The new event series, announced by DC Comics earlier this week, will further explore the mystery of DC Rebirth as the Watchman finally make their presence felt and known. Brought to us by a creative team consisting of writer Geoff Johns and artists Gary Frank and Brad Anderson, the series is expected to hit shelves this November.
There has been no synopsis released yet, but based on the promotional material shown above, one can expect a conflict of epic proportion between the members of the Watchmen and the Justice League. Just the thought of seeing the likes of Dr. Manhattan and Superman, Nite Owl and Batman, Silk Spectre and Wonder Woman, or any other character pairing you can think of, all together sounds incredibly exciting. It's what fans have been hoping for ever since Batman first found that distinct button in his Batcave.
According to Johns, “Last year, the DC Universe confronted the legacy of Watchmen in Rebirth the way Watchmen confronted the legacy of superhero comics three decades ago…It’s all paying off this November with DOOMSDAY CLOCK.”
There have been many mysteries surrounding the Watchmen and the events leading up to DC’s Rebirth, and this event promises to finally put some of those questions into better focus.
Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment are branching into the realm of direct-to-consumer digital services next year in a big way. Announced via press release, two highly anticipated series will be released in 2018 on their digital platform: a live-action Titans series and the hotly anticipated season 3 of Young Justice.
Titans will be brought to us by Executive Producers Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. The series is still in the beginning stages of its production, but is said to explore how “Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others.” With the previously announced Nightwing movie in development, one can expect that this series will exist in a separate universe from the DCEU films. There is no confirmation on who the “many others” are that will be on the team, but DC did release this classic Teen Titans comic cover with the announcement, so it is possible that we will see the likes of Wonder Girl, Cyborg, Kid Flash and Beast Boy.
Season 3 of Young Justice will be brought to us by Executive Producer Sam Register. Titled Young Justice: Outsiders, it will bring the team together against a new conflict as it faces “meta-human trafficking and the terrifying threat it creates for a society caught in the crossfire of a genetic arms race spanning the globe and the galaxy.” Given the time jump and the changes in the team lineup that occurred between seasons 1 and 2 of Young Justice, it is possible that we will see something similar with season 3.
If you would like to learn more about these series as they progress, DC is providing an update service via DC Fan Updates.

The season finales for Arrow and Supergirl promise to be family affairs with the return of a few fan favorite characters. E! News reports that over on Earth 38, Kara Zor El will once again be joined by her famous cousin, Superman, as portrayed by Tyler Hoechlin. Hoechlin made his debut in the season 2 premier as part of the Supergirl's move to the CW. There are currently no details regarding how he will fit into the larger story of season 2, but with the looming threats of Cadmus and the Queen of Daxam, one can expect an epic showdown.
Over on Arrow, fans can expect the return of two different characters for the end of the season. As teased above in a tweet from Stephen Amell, Deathstroke is back! Though he made a brief appearance in a dream sequence during the 4-part "Invasion" crossover, this seems to be more of a true return. Based on the tweet, Manu Bennett's Deathstroke may be returning as an ally in Oliver's fight against Prometheus.
That won't be the only help coming to aid Team Arrow. According to Entertainment Weekly, Katrina Law is set to reprise her role as Nyssa al Ghul for a multi-episode arc that will end with a face-off against her sister, Talia, who was introduced this season. The sisters have yet to meet on Arrow, and they each have their own torrid pasts with Oliver, so it will be exciting to see just exactly how this feud unfolds.
This is quite possibly the most exciting thing to happen to the DC Extended Universe since its inception. Variety reports that Warner Bros. and Joss Whedon are close to completing negations for Whedon to write, direct, and produce a solo Batgirl film for their shared universe. Whedon previously attempted to pen a Wonder Woman film for DC back in 2005, and fans have been eager for him to join that world ever since.
Though he is best known for his work on Marvel’s Avengers and its sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron, it is Whedon’s cult classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer that makes him the perfect choice to bring Batgirl to the big screen. With that series, which lasted for seven seasons, Whedon demonstrated his ability to write and develop strong female characters. There’s no doubt that he would build upon that foundation with Batgirl while bringing his unique blend of action, comedy, and drama to the DCEU.
There are no other details at this time, but it is possible that Batgirl could be introduced in David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens before spinning off on her own solo adventures. With that film possibly on the fast track for production, we could hear more news on this film sooner rather than later.

Fans of Katie Cassidy are rejoicing as Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment announced that she is returning to Arrow as a series regular for next season. However, considering how she was written off the show last year, she isn’t returning exactly as we left her. Instead, she will be reprising her role as the Earth 2 Laurel Lance, Black Siren.
Black Siren was introduced last year on The Flash and made her presence felt earlier this season on Arrow while working with the Season 5 Big Bad, Prometheus. She is scheduled to return to Arrow for episodes 22 and 23, where we will presumably learn exactly how she will fit into Season 6. Will it be as a friend or a foe to Team Arrow?
On bringing Katie Cassidy back to Arrow, executive producer Marc Guggenheim commented that, "One of the things that most excites us about Arrow is that we go where the story takes us. Last year, the story took us to the tragic death of Laurel Lance. This year, our midseason finale reintroduced us to Laurel’s doppelgänger, Black Siren. We were so taken by Katie’s fearless interpretation of this character that we knew her story was not yet finished. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Katie back to Arrow as Black Siren, though as her appearances on Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow this season show, she never really left the family."

Mother Boxes. Parademons. Steppenwolf. They're coming...and the Justice League will be ready. Today, Warner Bros. Studios released the first official trailer for Justice League. Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, and Henry Cavill; Justice League finally unites the legendary team to defend the world against a common threat.
Though the trailer features some great scenes, especially by Jason Momoa's Aquaman and Ezra Miller's Flash, notably absent is Henry Cavill's Superman. It is common knowledge that he will be part of the film, but without knowing what kind of role he will play, it seems that the studio is going to keep that a secret as long as possible.
Also of note, this fourth film in the DC Extended Universe seems to have a bit more humor than the previous entries. A major complaint from fans after BvS was the film's overall tone. If this trailer is any indication, it will have a bit more levity to it. Finally, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman makes note of the "age of heroes" having passed. Does this mean there was once a Justice Society of America? Or is she referring to something else? We'll have to wait until the film's release in November to find out.
WonderCon has announced their official programming schedule and it includes some big news for fans of the upcoming DC and Warner Bros. films. Attendees of the convention, which is taking place at the Anaheim Convention Center at the end of the this month, will be treated to new looks at upcoming DC Extended Universe projects.
Though an official lineup hasn't been released, one can expect to see more Wonder Woman footage before its June 2nd release date. The potentially big news is that we may finally see the official Justice League trailer. With that film slated to be released on November 17th, this seems like a prime opportunity to unveil new footage. The panel will be held in the convention arena on April 1st at 4:30pm. Guest announcements are still pending, but hopefully as the convention grows near, we can expect more details to be announced.
And that's not the only panel to anticipate. WonderCon is shaping up to be a great event for DC fans. Scheduled are panels on DC: Rebirth and a DC Essentials panel for newcomers, along with two opportunities to catch a screening of the DC Animated film, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, scheduled for Friday, March 31st, at 6:00pm and Sunday, April 2nd, at 3:15.
